Beyond These Stars Resource Index

Use a current Beyond These Stars resource index to identify material types, primary sources, common uses, blockage signals, and the next chain to inspect.

This Beyond These Stars resource index is a quick diagnostic list for the released 1.0 base game. It focuses on stable roles and chain relationships rather than exact cycle times. When the current client disagrees with a quantity in an older guide, use the in-game Building task and resource panels as the final answer.

Opening and construction materials

Natural / construction

Wood

Source: trees through early gathering and Woodcutters.

Use: Buildings and later wood processing.

Watch: Woodcutter output includes Wood Waste; a full secondary output can stop the useful material.

Scope: AppID 2295060, 1.0, officially documented.

Natural / construction

Stone

Source: nearby deposits and Mines.

Use: broad construction demand and later processing.

Watch: a depleted deposit or unstaffed Mine can look like a hauling delay.

Scope: AppID 2295060, 1.0, officially documented.

Ore to ingot

Iron

Source: iron-bearing deposits processed through mining and smelting.

Use: construction and further manufactured goods.

Watch: the smelting stage needs Power and creates Soot.

Scope: AppID 2295060, 1.0, officially documented.

Ore to ingot

Copper

Source: copper deposits through the Mine and Ore Smelter chain.

Use: Power Lines and advanced production.

Watch: do not spend the first stock without leaving enough to connect the growing grid.

Scope: AppID 2295060, 1.0, officially documented.

Manufactured

Tools

Source: Toolsmith using the metal chain.

Use: many Building costs and expansion steps.

Watch: Tool production competes for workers, Power, inputs, and by-product capacity.

Scope: AppID 2295060, 1.0, officially documented.

Manufactured

Planks, Glass, and Steel

Source: later wood and smelting chains.

Use: upgraded housing, services, transport, and advanced Buildings.

Watch: verify the current recipe and all outputs in the Building panel before scaling.

Scope: AppID 2295060, 1.0; recipe quantities are version-sensitive.

Peep needs and living resources

Water is the first drink and also an input to several later processes. Protect the route from source to homes before diverting it into a new industrial chain. Food and processed meals support the work-and-break loop; their value is realized only when they arrive at a home or valid service in time for the break.

Forests and fertile ground are not ordinary stock counters, but they belong in resource planning. Forests provide Wood, atmosphere, and pollution absorption. Flattening a healthy cluster to shorten a production route can create a larger cost in breathable space and Kewa health.

Need
Route to verify
Failure clue
Water
Water source or producer → allowed storage or direct supply → home or process.
Settlement owns Water, but the home has none at break.
Food
Agriculture → any processor → storage → home.
Field output is full while resident Energy keeps falling.
Atmosphere
Watered forest coverage over the area Peeps need to occupy.
A footprint lies outside breathable land despite nearby dry trees.

By-products that can stop the main output

Wood Waste appears alongside wood processing, Soot accompanies early generation and ore refining, and later production can create Slag, Sludge, Goo, Organic Waste, or Used Batteries. The important rule is shared: the producer needs a valid destination for every output of its task.

Use dedicated storage to buy time, then unlock or operate the process that consumes the material. Trace the conversion one step farther because a “waste consumer” can create another by-product. Never assume that adding storage permanently solves the chain.

The exact producer, consumer, quantity, and cycle time can change with balancing updates. For a current recipe, select the Building in your running 1.0 client. This index confirms the role and diagnostic direction, not an immutable rate table.

Use the index during a stall

Find the missing resource here, identify its source category, and select the expected producer. Confirm staff, input, Power, main-output room, by-product room, and transport in that order. If all six pass, inspect the consumer: it may be paused, disconnected, full, or waiting on another input.

For a remote material, open the Galaxy and System views and determine whether a known planet or trade opportunity provides it. Do not build an outpost until the home settlement and the planet-side needs loop can both operate without constant rescue.
