Beyond These Stars has a native Windows PC release on Steam. The store lists Windows 10 64-bit, DirectX, RAM, GPU, processor, storage, and SSD guidance for AppID 2295060. Steam Deck is rated Playable rather than Verified. No native macOS or Linux build is listed, so Proton or handheld reports must remain compatibility observations, not platform promises.

Confirm the exact Steam product first

Open the Steam page and verify AppID 2295060 before comparing requirements or troubleshooting. The separate Demo uses AppID 2546270 and the Playtest uses AppID 2546280; an old controller post, configuration file, or performance report may describe one of those builds rather than the released base game.

Use the current store requirements as the purchasing baseline. A third-party “can I run it” page can summarize the list, but it may cache an older GPU or release build. The System Requirements guide preserves the current minimum and recommended rows with a check date.

Native desktop scope

Windows 10 64-bit is the operating system listed for both published tiers. Steam does not list native macOS or Linux requirements.

Storage

7 GB available is listed for both tiers, with an SSD recommended. Keep extra free space for Steam patching and save safety.

Steam Deck

Playable is the current Valve compatibility category. It is not the same as Verified and can include interaction or readability caveats.

Controller scope

Compatibility metadata reports that some prompts may show mouse, keyboard, or non-Deck icons. Check the current input mode before remapping everything.

The minimum tier describes supported entry hardware, not a guaranteed resolution, graphics preset, or frame-rate target. The store does not attach a performance target to the listed components. If your system is close to minimum, begin with a conservative preset and observe the city at the scale you actually play, since simulation load and a dense settlement may differ from the opening.

The recommended tier provides more CPU, memory, and GPU headroom, but it still does not promise a particular frame rate. Match the whole system rather than one part. A recommended-class GPU paired with low memory or a slower processor may not behave like the complete recommended configuration.

Reserve storage beyond the published 7 GB. Steam may need temporary working space while applying an update, and a drive almost completely full can cause unrelated performance and patching problems. An SSD is recommended by the store for both tiers.

Understand the Steam Deck rating

Valve’s Playable category means the game can be used on Deck but may require extra interaction or accept limitations that keep it from Verified. SteamDB’s transcription of the compatibility test for AppID 2295060 reports that default controller use is not fully automatic in every case, some prompts can show non-Deck icons, an on-screen keyboard may need manual invocation, and some text can be small. It also reports that the default graphics configuration performs well in the test.

Treat those as dated compatibility metadata, not permanent behavior. A game update, Steam Input layout, Proton version, or Valve retest can change the result. Check the current badge on the Steam store and the current compatibility details on the device before following an old workaround.

Troubleshoot from the stable baseline

After an update, restart Steam and verify the game files before changing several settings. Launch with the default branch and current public version. If an issue appeared after importing an old configuration, move only the relevant setting back toward default rather than deleting unrelated saves or profiles.

For display or performance issues, record resolution, display mode, preset, frame-rate behavior, city size, and the moment the problem occurs. Lower one expensive setting at a time so the result is attributable. The store does not publish a promised frame-rate target, so report the observed behavior rather than labeling any one target official.

For input issues, confirm whether Steam Input is enabled, which controller layout is active, and whether the game is showing keyboard/mouse or controller prompts. Test navigation in the main menu, Building placement, map layers, camera movement, pause, and any text field. Do not copy a Demo-era binding list into 1.0 without testing each action.

Separate supported platforms from compatibility reports

The official product page lists a native Windows build. A successful ProtonDB report can help another user test Linux or Deck, but it does not create a native Linux version or an official support commitment. Likewise, a console announcement or Epic/GOG listing does not prove that the Steam build shares every setting, save location, or input behavior.

Keep the product, build, platform, and date beside any workaround. “Worked on AppID 2295060, public 1.0, Steam Deck, checked October 18” is useful; “the game supports Linux” overstates the evidence.

Recheck after updates

The 1.0 release received Hotfix #1 and #2 on launch day. Those notes focus on Building movement, a Power Generator range display, particles, the tutorial checkbox, and localization rather than broad performance or controller changes. Still, every new patch can alter configuration or compatibility. Read Updates before keeping an old workaround active.
