Beyond These Stars Food and Drink Guide

Keep Beyond These Stars Peeps fed and rested by moving food and drink into homes, upgrading recovery, and balancing farms, kitchens, and storage.

Peeps eat and drink at home during the shared break between work shifts. That makes a stocked global warehouse only half a solution: provisions must be produced, stored where useful, and delivered into each occupied accommodation before residents return. Better food and drink restore more, but dependable basic supply is always safer than an advanced menu that arrives late.

First check: select several homes during a break. If food or drink is absent there, follow the delivery path backward even when the settlement-wide resource count is positive.

Secure the basic home supply

Water is the first drink and also an input for agriculture, chemicals, fuel, forests, and cleanup. Avoid spending the entire buffer on production while homes run dry. A Water Pump needs appropriate placement and road access; its early adjacency can gain storage when positioned on an outcropping surrounded by three water tiles, but a reliable route matters more than forcing a perfect bonus.

Potatoes provide the early food baseline. Keep the patch watered and reachable, and leave enough labor for any step that requires a worker. A simple crop delivered consistently gives the settlement time to unlock better foods without an Energy collapse.

Watch consumption over a complete shift and break, not at one paused moment. All Peeps return home around the same time, so demand arrives as a wave. Build a buffer before adding residents, and confirm the next break leaves some stock for the one after it.

Upgrade recovery without breaking it

The official resource data distinguishes basic foods, ingredients, meals, drinks, and beverages. Crops and orchard fruit can supply homes directly or feed later Kitchen and drink-production recipes. Meals and improved beverages restore more Happiness and Energy than simple options, helping residents recover from demanding work.

Basic supply

Water and simple crops are the dependable floor. Protect them from competing industrial demand.

Varied crops

Farmhouse fields and Orchards widen direct food choices and provide recipe inputs.

Prepared goods

Kitchens and drink production improve recovery but add workers, inputs, power or pollution concerns depending on the building.

Service access

Cafes and related chains can enrich recovery, but homes still need their own between-shift provisions.

Add one upgrade chain at a time. Keep the old food and water loop operating until the new producer has inputs, staffing, storage, and observed output. Do not convert every crop into recipes if that leaves no direct food during a temporary Kitchen stoppage.

Place farms, stores, and homes as one system

Agriculture needs usable land and often water, while homes determine the 16-tile radius for employment. Put enough accommodation near agricultural and preparation jobs, but keep residents away from heavy pollution. A local storage point can shorten movement between fields, producers, and neighborhoods, provided it has a worker and the right filters.

Avoid making Peeps cross the whole city during their break. They return to their own homes, so distribute provision access across expanding districts. Inspect the outermost homes first after adding a new neighborhood; central housing can look healthy while edge residents miss deliveries.

Reserve fertile ground for scalable agriculture. Terraforming can compost bare tiles into dirt, channel water to dry land, and create the fertile, breathable tiles that agriculture and forests need. Large projects consume Compost, Debris handling, and labor, so expand before the food buffer is already critical.

Diagnose a food or drink shortage

Follow the chain in this order:

  1. Inspect an affected home during break and identify the missing category.
  2. Check whether a nearby valid store has the resource and whether deliveries are happening.
  3. Inspect the producer for workers, water or other inputs, power, output space, and by-products.
  4. Compare active jobs with housed workers; pause optional industry for one shift.
  5. Check pollution or toxic paths that can make Peeps sick or block routes.
  6. Restore a simple direct supply before restarting prepared-food lines.

If food exists but Energy still trends down, improve quality gradually and shorten the practical work-home-supply loop. The amount restored varies by item, and the live tooltip is the right authority for exact current values.

Plan for growth and outposts

New housing creates new demand immediately. Increase production and delivery buffer before filling every home slot. For outposts, build a basic local survival loop where possible and use Space Port shipments for resources the biome cannot provide. Leave unloading room and avoid assuming a ship will arrive before the shared break.
