Beyond These Stars Galaxy Map Guide

Read the Beyond These Stars galaxy map, distinguish sectors from systems, plan Kewa's Energy route, and prepare for events and worlds.

The Beyond These Stars galaxy map is the macro view of the space around Kewa. It shows discovered or visited locations across large sectors, while System View shows what exists at Kewa’s current location. Plan routes on the galaxy layer, then use the system layer to scout, trade, settle planets, or interact with an event.

Two-layer rule: a galaxy hex tells you where Kewa can travel; System View tells you what the Peeps can do after arriving.

Read sectors and map symbols

The galaxy is divided into large sectors, with stars, debris fields, static fields, unknown space, events, and other points of interest. Hexes sit on an offset X–Y grid. A blue boundary marks the edge of explorable space: Kewa can reach border hexes, but travel there does not reveal more hexes beyond that boundary.

Map symbols can represent unexplored space, a new Kewa discovery, a point of interest outside a system, a star system, an asteroid belt, a strange satellite, a habitable world, or a settleable planet. Hover or select the current symbol instead of relying on color memory, especially after a new discovery updates the map.

Unknown does not mean empty. It means the Peeps have not yet resolved the location. Build a route that leaves Kewa enough Energy and the settlement enough supply margin to handle an event or detour.

Plan routes around Kewa

Longer journeys consume more of Kewa’s Energy. Debris Field nodes can provide feeding opportunities while traveling, and Asteroid Belt locations can also help Kewa eat. A direct line may be faster; a food-aware route may be safer.

Objective

Identify whether the destination advances Story, reveals space, provides food, exposes an event, or reaches a habitable world.

Energy

Compare route length with Kewa's current condition and visible feeding opportunities.

Temperature

A long stay in a hot region can make Kewa unhappy and cause emergency travel toward cold space.

Settlement

Stock home provisions, clear by-product bottlenecks, and finish critical shipments before departure.

The Strange Transmitter lets the Peeps ask Kewa to visit a known place. Kewa may agree or may detour to meet their needs. Treat the request as collaboration and keep plans flexible.

Use System View after arrival

System View sits between the galaxy and an individual settlement. An empty-space stop may show only Kewa and an event. A star system can contain planets, belts, or other objects. From this view, the Peeps can send a Scout spaceship or Trade spaceship to investigate and interact, and can use Settlement spaceships for habitable worlds.

Do not build an outpost package before confirming what the world provides and lacks. Planets have specific biomes, terrain, resources, and infrastructure limits. The main settlement remains on Kewa; worlds are specialized supports rather than replacements for it.

When a useful system is discovered, record which resources belong there and what must be shipped in. The map answers “where”; the Space Port configuration answers “how the material moves.”

Prepare for the next move

Before leaving a system:

  1. Complete or deliberately defer any event and objective interaction.
  2. Load critical planet resources into Trade ships and confirm arrival on Kewa.
  3. Leave each active outpost with a survivable local loop and adequate storage.
  4. Check Kewa’s Energy, food opportunity, health, happiness, and temperature.
  5. Save before a long or story-significant request.

Do not assume the shortest geometric route is the best economic route. A small detour that feeds Kewa or secures a needed import can prevent a much larger recovery delay.

Troubleshoot a map that will not progress

If a destination is unavailable, verify it has been discovered and that the current objective or conversation has revealed it. Check the Strange Transmitter and Kewa’s needs. Enter System View to see whether the action belongs to a ship rather than Kewa. If a planet interaction is blocked, confirm you built the correct ship and the relevant launch or port infrastructure.
